A cold crisp morning greeted us with high wispy clouds, bright sunshine and beautiful blue skies. We assembled at Bass Pro Shops and met up with Bernadette and Gary (from Canada) who were joining us for their first run. Jim and Rose also joined for their first run with the club in their new Sky. The group loped along down the freeway, and got into some heavy traffic as this was the first weekend of the Renaissance Festival. Traffic was slow but steady. Once we had passed the festival grounds, the traffic eased up and we moved into relaxed travel mode. Our first stop was at the McDonalds in Globe for a short break.
We turned onto Route 77 out toward the Salt River Canyon and enjoyed
the fresh air, top down weather. The curves in the road were magic to
the soul and we delighted in the beauty the desert had to offer this
late in winter. We spied a few patches of snow on the ground, and in
the far off mountains, but it did not hinder our flight. As we drew
near the Salt River Canyon Rest Stop, we discovered that it was closed
and overgrown. Our hopes of walking down to the bridge and river were
stifled, but not our spirits. We turned around and found a lovely pull
out to park our cars in. Cameras flashed as passer-bys took pictures of
the beautiful group of cars. After enjoying each others company in the
beautiful desert weather, we gathered together for a group shot and
then headed back to Globe for lunch.
As always, lunch involved lively conversation, frivolity and friendship. It was a wonderful day filled with good food, great friends and twisty roads. What more could a sweetheart ask for? Until the next time.... Happy Trails!
