06/21 (Thu) Summer Solstice Dinner in Scottsdale Print
Hosted by Rich M
Thursday, June 21 2012, 18:30 - 20:00

NOTE: Dinner has changed. The Cordon Bleu restaurant may be closed due to limited winter staff.  Therefore, we are meeting at Sauce (details below):

To celebrate Summer Solstice on Thursday, June 21st, we will be gathering for Dinner in Scottsdale, following by crossing the Solstice Bridge for a brief visit to the Art District on one of their Art Walk evenings.

We will start with dinner at 6:30 PM at Sauce (menu at www.foxrc.com/downloads/menus/Sauce_Menu.pdf) which is across the street from Nordstroms at the Scottsdale Fashion Mall (near the canal and the trolly bridge).  Park underground in the same free parking garage you park at when you visit PF Changs at the corner of Scottsdale and Camelback Roads (there is also an entrance over by the Sauce restaurant which is located at 7135 E. Camelback Road but is really set back a little from Camelback on a little mall frontage Road to the South of Camelback).  Don't worry - the restaurant location is not difficult to find.  If you haven't been there, Sauce is PeiWei style Italian food, order in line, great salads and wines, numerous italian dishes, great single-sized pizzas, etc.

After dinner, we will walk across the Soleri-designed Solstice Bridge, whose 64 feet tall pylons cast NO shadow and solar noon earlier in the day, and whose same pylons cast a shadow along the entire length of the bridge on Winter Solstice.  Read more here: www.offbeattravel.com/tji-paolo-soleri-bridge-plaza-scottsdale.html

After crossing the bridge, those that are interested will cricle through the Northern Marshall Rd part of the Scottsdale Art district where more than 100 art galleries will remain open for the Thursday night Scottsdale Art Walk.  After a short cicle walk, we will split up with some people headed home and others continuing to enjoy the Art Walk.  Below is an about.com video of the art walk:
